 2017 Preview

Lanett completed the 2016 season with a 11-3 record. With their 6-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 2A region five, the Panthers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Lanett made a nice playoff run in 2016, reaching the semi-finals before falling to a very good Fyffe team by the score of 33-20.

The 630 points scored by the Panthers last year were a team record in a single season. It marked the first time since the 2013 season that the Panthers qualified for the playoffs. The Panthers hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Story saw improvement as they won eleven games following a 5-5 record in 2015.

The high-scoring Lanett offense ranked 9th in the AHSAA. They averaged 45.0 points a game.

Since 2010, Lanett has gone a combined 44-31. Their 59.0% winning percentage ranks 14th in Class 2A over the past seven seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Lanett has managed to compile a record of 159-132. Their 55.0% winning percentage ranks 16th in Class 2A and 134th in the AHSAA.

The Panthers are led by head coach Clifford Story who is entering his ninth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 50-36 over the past eight seasons at Lanett. Under his direction the Panthers have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times. They have won one region crown with Coach Story.

Coach Story's overall record as a head football coach in eight season stands at 50-36 (58.1%).

The Lanett Panthers will play in Class 2A region five during the 2017 season.

The Panthers should be considered one of the favorites for the region five championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. Don't be surprised if the Panthers are making another deep run into the playoffs.

The Panthers open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Valley on Friday, August 25 at Rams Field. Last year the Valley Rams finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in seventh place in Class 5A region four. The Rams closed out the regular season with a loss to Eufaula by a score of 45-15.

Lanett and Valley have met a total of 92 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 32-58-2 record against the Rams. They last met in 2016 with Lanett winning by a score of 26-0.

Lanett returns 2A All-State Senior receiver Anquaevious Pollard. He was named to the first team last season. The Panthers also return Senior defensive lineman Baraskious Dowdell. He was named to the second team. The Panthers also return Junior defensive back Trikweze Bridges. He was named to the first team.

College prospects include: Anquaevious Pollard (6-7, 190) receiver, Baraskious Dowdell (6-2, 240) defensive end, Jawon Howell (6-1, 190) outside linebacker,
