2017 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Vincent finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Vincent finished seventh in Class 2A region five with a 1-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. Vincent was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Yellow Jackets want to be competitive. They only averaged 17.4 points a game. Vincent struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 45.2 points a game. The Yellow Jackets would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 1-19 record. Since 2010, Vincent has gone a combined 32-43. Their 43.0% winning percentage ranks 35th in Class 2A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Vincent has managed to compile a record of 119-149. Their 44.0% winning percentage ranks 35th in Class 2A and 252nd in the AHSAA. The Yellow Jackets are led by head coach Wiley McKeller who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 1-9 record in his first season at Vincent. The Yellow Jackets saw improvement from a 0-10 record the season before coach McKeller arrived. The Yellow Jackets have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach McKeller. Coach McKeller's overall record as a head football coach in six season stands at 40-26 (60.6%). Over the course of his career, Coach McKeller's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times . The Vincent Yellow Jackets will play in Class 2A region five during the 2017 season. With a little luck and some improvement, the Yellow Jackets could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region five this season. Vincent missed the playoffs the past couple of seasons but hope to return to the post season in 2017. The Yellow Jackets open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Pleasant Valley on Friday, August 25 at Harold Garrett Stadium. Last year the Pleasant Valley Raiders finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in seventh place in Class 3A region five. The Raiders closed out the regular season with a loss to Spring Garden by a score of 36-27. Vincent and Pleasant Valley have met a total of 6 times on the football field. The Yellow Jackets have a 5-1-0 record against the Raiders. They last met in 2016 with Pleasant Valley winning by a score of 42-0. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
