 2017 Preview 


       Leroy completed the 2016 season with a 8-4 record. With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 2A region one, the Bears earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Leroy reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Aliceville by a score of 36-33.

       The Bears had some tough luck last season as three of their four losses were by less than eight points.

       Since 2010, Leroy has gone a combined 48-35. Their 58.0% winning percentage ranks 18th in Class 2A over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Leroy has gone a combined 237-93. Their 72.0% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class 2A and 22nd in the AHSAA. The Bears have been successful on the football field with twenty-one winning seasons during this time.

       The Bears are led by head coach Jason Massey who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 25-20 over the past four seasons at Leroy. Under his direction the Bears have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Massey.

       Coach Massey's overall record as a head football coach in six season stands at 35-31 (53.0%). Over the course of his career, Coach Massey's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times .

       The Leroy Bears will play in Class 2A region one during the 2017 season.

       The Bears should be considered one of the favorites for the region one championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs.

       The Bears open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Satsuma on Friday, September 1 at Copeland Field. Last year the Satsuma Gators finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in fourth place in Class 4A region one. The Gators lost in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs to St. James by a score of 49-21.

       Leroy and Satsuma have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Bears have a 3-1-0 record against the Gators. They last met in 2016 with Leroy winning by a score of 26-20.

  


Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

Parrish scored a record 77 points in a playoff game against Cedar Bluff in 2001. The Tornados were shutout the following week 19-0 by Courtland.
