2017 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
LaFayette completed the 2016 season with a 12-1 record. The Bulldogs cruised through the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record going into the post season. Last year LaFayette captured the region five title and a number one seed in the Class 2A playoffs. They finished region play with a 7-0 record. It was the first region championship for the Bulldogs since the 2005 season. LaFayette lost in the quarter-finals of the playoffs last season to a good Fyffe team by a score of 53-20. No team at LaFayette ever won more games in a season than the twelve victories last year. The 642 points scored by the Bulldogs last year were a team record in a single season. The Bulldogs hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Lucas saw improvement as they won twelve games following a 6-5 record in 2015. The high-scoring LaFayette offense ranked 2nd in the AHSAA. They averaged 49.4 points a game. Since 2010, LaFayette has gone a combined 34-41. Their 45.0% winning percentage ranks 32nd in Class 2A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, LaFayette has managed to compile a record of 123-143. Their 46.0% winning percentage ranks 32nd in Class 2A and 230th in the AHSAA. The Bulldogs are led by head coach James Lucas who is entering his fourth season at the helm. Over the course of his career, Coach Lucas' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times and won two region championships. The LaFayette Bulldogs will play in Class 2A region five during the 2017 season.
