Sulligent completed the 2016 season with a 6-5 record. With their 4-2 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 2A region eight, the Blue Devils earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Sulligent's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Tanner by a score of 42-14. Since 2010, Sulligent has gone a combined 39-38. Their 51.0% winning percentage ranks 27th in Class 2A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Sulligent has managed to compile a record of 140-149. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 29th in Class 2A and 217th in the AHSAA. The Blue Devils are led by head coach Daniel Merchant who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 14-9 over the past two seasons at Sulligent. Under his direction the Blue Devils have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. CJ McLemore returns for his Junior season after completing 44 of 86 passes for 743 yards and 6 touchdowns. He also rushed for 254 yards. Senior Tyreke Metcalfe returns after rushing for 914 yards on 110 carries and scoring 13 TDs. Senior Ethan Carter also returns after rushing for 734 yards on 143 carries and scoring 4 TDs. Junior Marco Mastin also ran for 713 yards. The defense returns Senior defensive end Hayden Nolen who registered 5 sacks for 36 yards in losses last season. The Blue Devils open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Marion County on Friday, August 25 at Brown Stadium. Last year the Marion County Red Raiders finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in fifth place in Class 1A region five. The Red Raiders closed out the regular season with a loss to Sumiton Christian by a score of 42-20. Sulligent and Marion County have met a total of 68 times on the football field. The Blue Devils have a 41-22-5 record against the Red Raiders.
