 2017 Preview 


       Notasulga completed the 2016 season with a 7-5 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 1A region three, the Blue Devils earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Notasulga reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Linden by a score of 48-15.

       Since 2010, Notasulga has gone a combined 48-33. Their 59.0% winning percentage ranks 15th in Class 1A over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Notasulga has managed to compile a record of 154-129. Their 54.0% winning percentage ranks 18th in Class 1A and 145th in the AHSAA.

       The Blue Devils are led by head coach Anthony Jones who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 16-8 over the past two seasons at Notasulga. Under his direction the Blue Devils have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have won one region crown with Coach Jones.

       Coach Jones' overall record as a head football coach in two season stands at 16-8 (66.7%).

       The Notasulga Blue Devils will play in Class 1A region three during the 2017 season. The Blue Devils have one of the toughest schedules in Class 1A. Their opponents had a combined record of 66-50 last season. That ranks 3rd in Class 1A and 44th in the AHSAA.

       The Blue Devils will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region three this season.

       The Blue Devils open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Reeltown on Thursday, August 24 at Blue Devils Stadium. Last year the Reeltown Rebels finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in third place in Class 2A region five. The Rebels lost in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs to Sand Rock by a score of 20-18.

       Notasulga and Reeltown have met a total of 68 times on the football field. The Blue Devils have a 27-40-1 record against the Rebels. They last met in 2016 with Notasulga winning by a score of 25-6.

       Notasulga returns 1A All-State Senior receiver Walter Tatum. He was named to the second team last season.
