NFL Players from Alabama
|
Alabama has been fortunate to have many high school football players move
on to the National Football League. Over 500 players from the state have
appeared in at least one NFL game since 1920. Five of these players
achieved the highest honor of all in the game by being elected to the
Pro Football Hall of Fame. They are Bart Starr, Ozzie Newsome, John
Hannah, John Stallworth and Buck Buchanan. I think you would agree
Alabama is well represented with these great players.

Which high school has produced the most players? The Murphy Panthers lead all other schools with 12 players having represented the school on Sunday. Vigor follows closely with eleven players. Other teams with at least ten players are Anniston, Woodlawn, Sidney Lanier and Central Phenix City. The first player to appear in an NFL game was Pryor Williams from Athens when he suited up on the offensive line for the Detroit Tigers for three games. Just this past spring the state could boast mightily when Jamarcus Russell was selected by the Oakland Raiders with their number one pick in the NFL Draft. Jamarcus, a product of Williamson high school in Mobile, will be the latest in a long line of players to represent Alabama.

To view a list of these players choose from the Alphabetical list above or visit your favorite team's page under 'Find a Team' in the left column. Remember, to qualify a player must have played high school football for a team in Alabama and played in at least one regular season game in the NFL or any league recognized by the NFL. Many more players have appeared in preseason games and in Arena Football League games.
