 2017 Preview

Fayetteville finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Fayetteville just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 2A region five with a 3-4 region record.

Fayetteville took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2012. The Wolves hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just three games which followed a 9-3 record in 2015.

Since 2010, Fayetteville has gone a combined 29-43. Their 40.0% winning percentage ranks 36th in Class 2A over the past seven seasons.

Over the past 20 seasons, Fayetteville has not won much with a record of 58-139. Their 29.0% winning percentage ranks 52nd in Class 2A and 348th in the AHSAA.

The Wolves are led by head coach John Limbaugh who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 25-27 over the past five seasons at Fayetteville. Under his direction the Wolves have qualified for the playoffs once. They have won one region crown with Coach Limbaugh.

Coach Limbaugh's overall record as a head football coach in five season stands at 25-27 (48.1%).

The Fayetteville Wolves will play in Class 2A region five during the 2017 season.

It will be an uphill battle for the Wolves if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region five this season.

The Wolves open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Central Coosa on Friday, September 1 at FarmLinks Field. Last year the Central Coosa Cougars finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in fifth place in Class 3A region three. The Cougars closed out the regular season with a loss to Childersburg by a score of 82-64.

Fayetteville and Central Coosa have met a total of 8 times on the football field. The Wolves have a 7-1-0 record against the Cougars. They last met in 2016 with Central Coosa winning by a score of 34-7.
