THIS WEEK IN ALABAMA HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL
AHSFHS.org Report
(Oct. 23, 2010)

Week 9

Nine weeks down and one remaining before the road to Auburn and the Super Six begins. All region championships are decided and most playoff spots filled.

   *  Randy Ragsdale won his 200th game as a head coach when Trinity defeated Montgomery Academy 41-7.

   *  Jacksonville Christian and Westminster Christian qualified for the playoffs for the first time in the school's history. West Limestone last made the playoffs in 1998.

   *  Coosa Valley Academy won their first region championship in the team's history. These teams won a region championship after a many years since their last title: Washington County (1974), St. Jude (1975), Piedmont (1994), Wetumpka (1995), Marion County (1997 and Rogers (1997).

   *  The Clay County Panthers are assured of their 28th consecutive winning season. with a 6-3 record in 2010.

   *  T.R. Miller scored for the 302st consecutive games in a 48-35 win over Catholic Montgomery.

   *  Bibb County extended their 25 consecutive regular season victory streak with a 62-0 defeat of rival West Blocton.

   *  The Brantley Bulldogs saw at least three streaks come to an end this week when they lost to McKenzie 18-12.  Their streak of 22 consecutive victories and 62 straight region wins are gone. Hoover takes over the longest winning streak at 15 games while Sweet Water assumes the top spot for consecutive region wins with a streak of 34 games.

   *  Central Hayneville extended their string of consecutive losses to a state high 31.

   *  Carver Birmingham broke their 36 straight region game losing streak by defeating Bessemer City 28-20 Thursday night. Cold Springs currently has the longest region losing streak with 24 losses followed by Central Hayneville with 22 and W.S. Neal with 21.

   *  Handley continues their state high 24 consecutive home winning streak because their loss to Leeds was on the road.

   *  Colbert County extended their sting of consecutive playoff seasons to 30.

   *  Berry Fayette accomplished something a little odd. They lost to Hubbertville 55-52 after falling to Marion County 58-54 last week. The oddity would be that they somehow managed to lose consecutive games while scoring 50 points in both games. Where's the defense?

Note: The new schools will not be included in team records because of the obvious reasons.
