THIS WEEK IN ALABAMA HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL
AHSFHS.org Report
(Sept. 19, 2010)

Week 4

The 2010 high school football season is beginning to take shape with four weeks in the books. Here is a look at some of the action from this weekend.

  *  The first tidbit has to be about Coach Waldon Tucker and his now record of 303 wins in high school football. There's a new leader and it is well deserved. I have heard comments about some wins coming in AISA but as far as AHSFHS.org is concerned he is the all time leader in wins for a high school coach in Alabama. Fayette County defeated Haleyville 35-7 on Friday night.

   *  Coach Joe Billingsley at Gadsden City reached a milestone when he surpassed the 100 win mark in a 24-13 win over Huffman. Next up on the 100 win watch will be Mark Britton at Cullman with a record of 99-46 and John Grass at Oxford with a record of 99-52 wins each. Another note concerning head coaches is that Fred Riley at Davidson actually has 102 wins but 16 of the wins came at Lenoir City in Tennessee.

   *  T.R. Miller surpassed the 600 win mark last week and Colbert County has a shot at the same feat this week. A note is that AHSFHS.org does not have a complete record for Colbert County and is relying on information supplied by other sources. Hopefully someday we will be able to complete Colbert County and be certain of the number of victories for this team. The research has been done for them. We just have not been able to find a copy of it.

   *  With Linden's loss to Sweet Water we have a new leader for regular season consecutive wins. And the leader is Auburn at 25 straight wins during the regular season. Other long streaks include Bibb County at 20 and Elba at 17.

   *  T.R. Miller scored in the 46-0 win over Montgomery Academy so they extend their scoring streak to 297 games.

   *  The last time the Prattville Lions suffered two region loses in a season was 1992.

   *  The Brantley Bulldogs top our list for the longest winning streak with eighteen consecutive victories. The Bulldogs also won their region contest with Georgiana 54-6 to up the longest region winning streak to 59 games in a row.

   *  Central Hayneville continues to top our list with 27 consecutive losses. J.F. Shields is not far behind with a streak of their own at 26 games.

   *   Clay County has lost two consecutive games for the first time since 2003.

   *   Hazel Green won a region game over Sparkman to break their string of thirty-four straight losses in a region contest. The new leader for consecutive region losses belongs to Carver Birmingham with a streak of 33 straight games without a win.

   *  Coach Joe Billingsley will be after win number 100 next Friday when the Gadsden Titans take on Huffman. Billingsley has a career record of 99-54 including stints at Gadsden and Gordo. He won a state championship at Gordo in 2001.

Note: The new schools will not be included in team records because of the obvious reasons.
