Week 6

Six weeks down and four to go until the end of the regular season ends. It is still too early for any team to lock up a playoff spot but after next weeks action the region championship races will become a lot clearer.  Here is a look at this weekend's football action.

   *  A new team joined our list of 500 win teams. Not by winning on Friday night but by someone doing some research. Bessemer City , Jess Lanier and Bessemer are considered the same school and with research completed they come in with a record of 587-321-34. They were a powerhouse in the early years of high school football in the state.

   *  Mark Britton of Cullman won his 100th game as a head coach against Brewer 49-14. Jamie Riggs got win number 250 for T.R. Miller.

   *  T.R. Miller scored in the 34-26 win over Clarke County to extend their scoring streak to 299 games.

   *  Bibb County extended their 21 consecutive regular season victory streak with a 35-0 win over Livingston.

   *  The Brantley Bulldogs top our list for the longest winning streak with 20 consecutive victories following a 26-6 win over Pleasant Home.  The win also extends their record to 60 straight region wins.

   *  Central Hayneville extended their string of consecutive losses to a state high 28.

   *  Carver Birmingham has lost a record 34 straight region games.

   *  Handley has a state high 23 consecutive home wins.

   *  The Baker Hornets lost game number six on Friday night to extend their string of consecutive losing seasons to 21.

   *  Fred Yancey at Briarwood has won 199 games as a head coach. He will be after win number 200 next Friday night against Pinson Valley.

   *  Tanner defeated Sumiton Christian 54-0 and have yet to allow a point this season. Maplesville matched the feat by defeating John Essex 55-0.

   *  Mike Battles Jr. has 99 wins as a head coach. He will be after win number 100 next week when Bibb County takes on  Greene County.



Note: The new schools will not be included in team records because of the obvious reasons.

Teams that set team records.

   *   Leeds set new team records for points scored in a game.

   *   Teams that set team records for the most points allowed in a game included Bessemer City, Highland Home, J.O. Johnson and Section.

   *   No teams set new team records for largest margin of victory.

   *    Bessemer City, J.O. Johnson and Lee Huntsville set team records for largest margin of defeat.

   *   The following teams set team records for points scored by both teams in a game; Austin, Ider and West End Walnut Grove.

   *  Kinston - 4 games
   *  Westminster Christian - 5 games



Teams set team records for the longest losing streaks in school history.

   *  Central Hayneville - 28 games
   *  Talladega - 23 games
   *  Cold Springs - 21 games
   *  Priceville - 15 games
   *  Central Tuscaloosa - 14 games
   *  Wilcox Academy - 14 games
   *  Georgiana - 8 games
   *  Macon-East Academy - 7 games

Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

The first night game played between high school teams in the state occurred on September 23, 1927 when Pike Road and Cloverdale met in the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery.
