THIS WEEK IN ALABAMA HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL
AHSFHS.org Report
(Sept. 26, 2010)

Week 5

It is difficult to believe but we have reached the halfway point in the 2010 regular season. Here is a look at this weekend's football action.

   *  Colbert County failed in their attempt at the 600th win in team history. Enterprise joins them as both teams currently sit at 599 wins. A note is that AHSFHS.org does not have a complete record for Colbert County and is relying on information supplied by other sources. Enterprise has been researched to the best of our ability but is still missing scores for games played. They very well could have more than 600 wins currently.

   *  John Grass won his 100th game as a head football coach in fine fashion on Friday when Oxford upset Auburn 35-23. Mark Britton of Cullman came up short against Fort Payne but will get another shot for win number 100 next week against Brewer.

   *  T.R. Miller scored in the 46-0 win over Montgomery Academy so they extend their scoring streak to 298 games.

   *  Auburn's lose to Oxford snapper the Tiger's 25 game regular season winning streak. Currently Bibb County takes over the top spot with 21 consecutive regular season victories. Elba comes in a close second with a streak of 18 games.

   *  The Brantley Bulldogs top our list for the longest winning streak with nineteen consecutive victories following an impressive 27-7 win over Luverne

   *  Central Hayneville and J.F. Shields share the not so glamorous distinction of a state high 27 consecutive losses.

   *  Clay County has lost three consecutive games for the first time since 1993.

   *  Colbert County lost 55-18 to Deshler which was the most points the Indians have allowed since 1990.

   *  Decatur Heritage Christian won the first football game in school history Friday night with a 48-26 win over Waterloo.

   *  After only five weeks of action only Fort Payne remains as the only undefeated class 5A teams. All of the top six teams lost in Friday night action.

   *  Tanner and Maplesville have yet to allow a single point in the 2010 season.

   *  From 1950 through the 1991 season there were seven games where both teams scored a combined 100 points in a game. On Friday night five games topped the century mark and seven games have topped 100 points this season. The record for 100 point games belongs to the 2008 season when a total of fifteen games topping 100 points. In 2009 there were only three games over the century mark.

Note: The new schools will not be included in team records because of the obvious reasons.
