 2016 Preview

Crossville finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Crossville finished seventh in Class 4A region six with a 1-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The Lions have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2004 season and would love to end that streak this year. The Lions last playoff victory came during the 2000 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Crossville averaged scoring just 10.6 points a game.

The Lions would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 1-19 record. Since 2010, the Crossville football program has struggled with a record of 13-47.

Over the past 25 seasons, Crossville has managed to compile a record of 124-144. Their 46.0% winning percentage ranks 35th in Class 5A and 228th in the AHSAA. Their last winning season was 2010.

Brian Clowdis resigned his position as head coach in mid-June and accepted a job as an assistant at Spring Garden in July. His three seasons at Crossville produced a 3-27 record.

Miles Holcomb takes over the head coaching duties at Crossville for the 2016 season. A former player at the school, Holcomb was a member of the first football team at Shorter University.

The Crossville Lions will play in Class 5A region seven during the 2016 season. The Lions move up in classification to Class 5A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move.

This season, the Lions will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region seven.

Quarterback Ganon Pointer returns for his senior season after completing 84 of 161 passes for 1,017 yards and 7 touchdowns as a junior last season.

The Lions open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Collinsville on Friday, August 26 at Crossville Memorial Stadium. Last year the Collinsville Panthers finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in fourth place in Class 2A region seven. The Panthers lost in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs to Randolph County by a score of 70-7.

Crossville and Collinsville have met a total of 81 times on the football field. The Lions have a 46-34-1 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2003 with Crossville winning by a score of 56-7.
