 2016 Preview

Guntersville completed the 2015 season with a 12-1 record. The Wildcats cruised through the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record going into the post season. Last year Guntersville captured the region seven title and a number one seed in the Class 5A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. Guntersville lost in the quarter-finals of the playoffs last season to a good Mortimer Jordan team by a score of 26-0.

The defense was very stingy last season as Guntersville ranked 12th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 10.8 points a game.

Over the past two seasons the Wildcats have gone 24-2 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Guntersville has gone a combined 53-17. Their 76.0% winning percentage ranks 4th in Class 5A over the past six seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Guntersville has managed to compile a record of 187-98. Their 66.0% winning percentage ranks 12th in Class 5A and 46th in the AHSAA.

The Wildcats are led by head coach Lance Reese who is entering his seventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 53-17 over the past six seasons at Guntersville. Under his direction the Wildcats have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Reese.

Coach Reese's overall record as a head football coach in six season stands at 53-17 (75.7%).

The Guntersville Wildcats will play in Class 5A region seven during the 2016 season.

The Wildcats enter the 2016 season riding a 28 game regular season winning streak. Guntersville has won 19 consecutive region games. They have won 20 straight games on their home turf at Chorba-Lee Stadium.

The Wildcats should be considered one of the favorites for the region seven championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs.

The Wildcats open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Oneonta on Friday, August 26 at Gilbreath Stadium. Last year the Oneonta Redskins finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in fourth place in Class 4A region seven. The Redskins lost in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs to Cordova by a score of 33-14.

Guntersville and Oneonta have met a total of 35 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 19-16-0 record against the Redskins. They last met in 2013 with Oneonta winning by a score of 23-21.
