 2016 Preview

Etowah completed the 2015 season with a 7-4 record. With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 5A region seven, the Blue Devils earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Etowah's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Parker by a score of 27-21.

The Blue Devils had some tough luck last season as three of their four losses were by less than eight points.

The defense was very stingy last season as Etowah ranked 25th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 13.3 points a game.

Since 2010, Etowah has gone a combined 43-24. Their 64.0% winning percentage ranks 16th in Class 5A over the past six seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Etowah has gone a combined 193-93. Their 68.0% winning percentage ranks 8th in Class 5A and 36th in the AHSAA. Their last losing season was 2009.

The Blue Devils are led by head coach Drew Noles who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 20-13 over the past three seasons at Etowah. Under his direction the Blue Devils have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Noles.

Coach Noles' overall record as a head football coach in sixteen season stands at 100-76 (56.8%). His 100 wins rank 51st among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Noles' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of twelve times .

The Etowah Blue Devils will play in Class 5A region seven during the 2016 season.

The Blue Devils should be in contention for a playoff spot in region seven this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game. They have reached the playoffs every year since 2009 and will once again be in the hunt for a spot in 2016.

The Blue Devils open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Southside Gadsden on Friday, August 19 at Barney Hood Stadium. Last year the Southside Gadsden Panthers finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in fifth place in Class 6A region seven.

Etowah and Southside Gadsden have met a total of 44 times on the football field. The Blue Devils have a 30-13-1 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2013 with Southside Gadsden winning by a score of 21-17.

Etowah returns 5A All-State Senior offensive lineman Peyton Nance. He was named to the first team last season.
