Alexandria completed the 2015 season with a 11-2 record. Last year Alexandria captured the region six title and a number one seed in the Class 5A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-1 record. Alexandria made a nice playoff run in 2015, reaching the semi-finals before falling to a very good Mortimer Jordan team by the score of 42-36. The Valley Cubs won as many games as in any season since 2006. The Valley Cubs hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Tucker saw improvement as they won eleven games following a 6-4 record in 2014. Since 2010, Alexandria has gone a combined 41-26. Their 61.0% winning percentage ranks 19th in Class 5A over the past six seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Alexandria has gone a combined 223-68. Their 77.0% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class 5A and 8th in the AHSAA. The Valley Cubs have been successful on the football field with twenty-three winning seasons during this time. The Valley Cubs are led by head coach Frank Tucker who is entering his tenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 64-37 over the past nine seasons at Alexandria. Under his direction the Valley Cubs have qualified for the playoffs a total of eight times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Tucker. Coach Tucker's overall record as a head football coach in nine season stands at 64-37 (63.4%). The Alexandria Valley Cubs will play in Class 5A region seven during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Valley Cubs remain in 5A but move from region six over to region seven. The Valley Cubs should be in contention for a playoff spot in region seven this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game. The Valley Cubs open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Jacksonville on Friday, August 26 at Golden Eagle Stadium. Last year the Jacksonville Golden Eagles finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in fourth place in Class 4A region six. The Golden Eagles lost in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs to Brooks by a score of 35-21. Alexandria and Jacksonville have met a total of 86 times on the football field. The Valley Cubs have a 52-30-4 record against the Golden Eagles. They last met in 2015 with Alexandria winning by a score of 46-14. Alexandria returns 5A All-State Senior athlete Jamal Tucker. He was named to the second team last season. The Valley Cubs also return Junior running back Keenan Woodruff.
