 2016 Preview

Boaz finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Boaz finished seventh in Class 5A region seven with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Boaz averaged scoring just 11.8 points a game.

Since 2010, Boaz has gone a combined 29-35. Their 45.0% winning percentage ranks 28th in Class 5A over the past six seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Boaz has managed to compile a record of 127-140. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 31st in Class 5A and 212nd in the AHSAA.

The Pirates are led by head coach Eric Whaley who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 10-21 over the past three seasons at Boaz. Under his direction the Pirates have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Whaley.

Coach Whaley's overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 10-21 (32.3%).

The Boaz Pirates will play in Class 5A region seven during the 2016 season.

The Pirates enter the 2016 season in the middle of a 7 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season.

This season, the Pirates will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region seven.

The Pirates open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent J.B. Pennington on Friday, August 26 at W.R. Sutton Memorial Stadium. Last year the J.B. Pennington Tigers finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in eighth place in Class 4A region seven. The Tigers ended last season on a positive note with a win over Susan Moore by a score of 47-14 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

Boaz and J.B. Pennington have met a total of 12 times on the football field. The Pirates have a 6-5-1 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2015 with J.B. Pennington winning by a score of 36-18.

Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

The Tuscaloosa Black Bears were considered one of the best programs in the nation from 1925-1931. Their record over that span was an amazing 61-0-3.
