 2016 Preview

Douglas completed the 2015 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Douglas finished sixth in Class 5A region seven with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The Eagles have not qualified for the playoffs since the 1998 season and would love to end that streak this year. They have never won a playoff game in the school's history.

Douglas was inconsistent offensively last year and that needs to pick up if the Eagles want to be competitive. They only averaged 16.0 points a game.

Since 2010, Douglas has gone a combined 21-39. Their 35.0% winning percentage ranks 37th in Class 5A over the past six seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Douglas has not won much with a record of 71-181. Their 28.0% winning percentage ranks 54th in Class 5A and 354th in the AHSAA. The Eagles have struggled on the football field with only four winning seasons during this time.

Brian Knapp leaves Douglas after eight seasons with a 27-53 record. None of his teams were able to win enough games to qualify for the playoffs.

Brad Pounds will lead Douglas in 2016 on the football field. He spent the past three seasons on the staff at Albertville. Previously Pounds worked at Guntersville on the staff for coach Lance Reese. He is a graduate of Boaz and played for Nick Saban at Alabama. This will be his first job as a head football coach.

The Douglas Eagles will play in Class 5A region seven during the 2016 season.

It will be an uphill battle for the Eagles if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region seven this season.

The Eagles open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent D.A.R. on Friday, August 19 at Authur Jarvis Stadium. Last year the D.A.R. Patriots finished with an overall record of 8-3 and in third place in Class 4A region seven. The Patriots lost in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs to Fayette County by a score of 49-38.

Douglas and D.A.R. have met a total of 16 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 4-12-0 record against the Patriots. They last met in 2015 with D.A.R. winning by a score of 27-7.
