 2016 Preview

Jacksonville completed the 2015 season with a 6-5 record. With their 4-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 4A region six, the Golden Eagles earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Jacksonville's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Brooks by a score of 35-21.

Since 2010, Jacksonville has gone a combined 32-33. Their 49.0% winning percentage ranks 34th in Class 4A over the past six seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Jacksonville has managed to compile a record of 102-151. Their 40.0% winning percentage ranks 44th in Class 4A and 278th in the AHSAA.

The Golden Eagles are led by head coach Clint Smith who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 28-17 over the past four seasons at Jacksonville. Under his direction the Golden Eagles have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Smith.

Coach Smith's overall record as a head football coach in fourteen season stands at 85-64 (57.0%). Over the course of his career, Coach Smith's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of eight times and won one region championship.

The Jacksonville Golden Eagles will play in Class 4A region five during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Golden Eagles remain in 4A but move from region six over to region five.

With a little luck and some improvement, the Golden Eagles could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region five this season. Unfortunately, Jacksonville finds themselves in a very competitive region with other playoff quality teams. They may need to pull off an upset or two to have any shot at the postseason.

The Golden Eagles open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Trinity on Friday, August 19 at Boykin Field. Last year the Trinity Wildcats finished with an overall record of 8-4 and in second place in Class 4A region two. The Wildcats lost in the second round of the Class 4A playoffs to UMS-Wright by a score of 49-14.

Jacksonville and Trinity have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Golden Eagles have a 1-1-0 record against the Wildcats. They last met in with
