 2017 Preview 


       Wadley completed the 2016 season with a 10-1 record. The Bulldogs cruised through the regular season with a perfect 9-0 record going into the post season. Last year Wadley captured the region four title and a number one seed in the Class 1A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. Wadley reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Sweet Water by a score of 21-20.

       The high-scoring Wadley offense ranked 12th in the AHSAA. They averaged 43.7 points a game.

       The Bulldogs defense dominated most opponents as they ranked 7th in the AHSAA. The defense gave up just 10.1 points a game.

       Since 2010, Wadley has gone a combined 44-32. Their 58.0% winning percentage ranks 17th in Class 1A over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Wadley has managed to compile a record of 185-111. Their 62.0% winning percentage ranks 10th in Class 1A and 78th in the AHSAA.

       The Bulldogs are led by head coach Ken Fordham who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 31-14 over the past four seasons at Wadley. Under his direction the Bulldogs have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Fordham.

       Coach Fordham's overall record as a head football coach in ten season stands at 61-47 (56.5%). Over the course of his career, Coach Fordham's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of six times and won three region championships.

       The Wadley Bulldogs will play in Class 1A region four during the 2017 season.

       The Bulldogs enter the 2017 season riding a 13 game regular season winning streak.

       The Bulldogs should be considered one of the favorites for the region four championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs.

       The Bulldogs open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Woodland on Thursday, August 31 at Sewell Field. Last year the Woodland Bobcats finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in eighth place in Class 2A region five. The Bobcats ended last season on a positive note with a win over Donoho by a score of 54-35 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

       Wadley and Woodland have met a total of 80 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 43-35-2 record against the Bobcats. They last met in 2016 with Wadley winning by a score of 55-0.

       Wadley returns 1A All-State Senior defensive back Quae Drake. He was named to the first team last season.
