2017 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Beulah finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Beulah finished sixth in Class 3A region three with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Bobcats have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2007 season and would love to end that streak this year. The Bobcats last playoff victory came during the 1994 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Beulah struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 42.1 points a game. The Bobcats would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 2-18 record. Since 2010, the Beulah football program has struggled with a record of 18-52. Over the past 25 seasons, Beulah has not won much with a record of 83-183. Their 31.0% winning percentage ranks 53rd in Class 3A and 339th in the AHSAA. Jarrod Wooten leaves Beulah after four seasons with a 8-32 record. His last two squads finished with identical 1-9 record. Wooten left Beulah to become the defensive coordinator at Straughn. Cody Flournoy, who spent the previous two seasons as an assistant coach at Central Phenix City will lead the Bobcats in 2017. The Beulah Bobcats will play in Class 3A region three during the 2017 season. It will be an uphill battle for the Bobcats if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region three this season. After just a single win last year, Beulah will be hopeful of winning a few more games this season. The Bobcats open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Spring Garden on Friday, September 1 at Bobcat Stadium. Last year the Spring Garden Panthers finished with an overall record of 10-2 and in second place in Class 1A region six. The Panthers lost in the second round of the Class 1A playoffs to Addison by a score of 42-26. Beulah and Spring Garden have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Bobcats have a 1-1-0 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2016 with Spring Garden winning by a score of 47-12. Beulah returns 3A All-State Junior linebacker Caden Dowdell. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
