2017 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Donoho finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Donoho finished sixth in Class 1A region four with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Falcons lost as many games as in any season since 2009. The defense allowed a team record 422 points last season. Donoho struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 42.2 points a game. Since 2010, Donoho has gone a combined 47-28. Their 63.0% winning percentage ranks 13th in Class 1A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Donoho has managed to compile a record of 144-135. Their 52.0% winning percentage ranks 23rd in Class 1A and 164th in the AHSAA. Andy McWilliams leaves Donoho after just two years with a 5-14 record. Mark Sanders left the Victory Christian program in much better shape than where he found it four years ago. He has accepted the head coaching job at Donoho. He rebuilt the football program back to a respectable level and went 17-14 over three seasons. Coach Sanders' overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 17-14 (54.8%). Over the course of his career, Coach Sanders' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of one time . The Donoho Falcons will play in Class 1A region four during the 2017 season. The Falcons have one of the toughest schedules in Class 1A. Their opponents had a combined record of 56-49 last season. That ranks 8th in Class 1A and 117th in the AHSAA. It will be an uphill battle for the Falcons if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region four this season. After just 2 wins last year, Donoho will be hoping to become more competitive in the region. The Falcons open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Horseshoe Bend on Friday, September 1 at Lantz Field. Last year the Horseshoe Bend Generals finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in fourth place in Class 2A region five. The Generals lost in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs to Fyffe by a score of 56-7. Donoho and Horseshoe Bend have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Falcons have a 2-2-0 record against the Generals. They last met in 2016 with Horseshoe Bend winning by a score of 55-13. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
