 2017 Preview

Appalachian completed the 2016 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Appalachian finished seventh in Class 1A region four with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

Appalachian was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Eagles want to be competitive. They only averaged 19.1 points a game.

Since 2010, Appalachian has gone a combined 27-42. Their 39.0% winning percentage ranks 38th in Class 1A over the past seven seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Appalachian has managed to compile a record of 120-153. Their 44.0% winning percentage ranks 33rd in Class 1A and 249th in the AHSAA.

The Eagles are led by head coach Zack Jones who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 5-15 over the past two seasons at Appalachian. The Eagles have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Jones.

Coach Jones' overall record as a head football coach in two season stands at 5-15 (25.0%).

The Appalachian Eagles will play in Class 1A region four during the 2017 season.

This season, the Eagles will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region four.

The Eagles open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Southeastern on Thursday, August 24 at Eagles Stadium. Last year the Southeastern Mustangs finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in seventh place in Class 1A region seven. The Mustangs ended last season on a positive note with a win over Asbury by a score of 39-7 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

Appalachian and Southeastern have met a total of 11 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 6-5-0 record against the Mustangs. They last met in 2016 with Appalachian winning by a score of 34-14.
