Fyffe completed the 2016 season with a 15-0 record. Last year Fyffe captured the region six title and a number one seed in the Class 2A playoffs. They finished region play with a 7-0 record. The Red Devils reeled off five straight playoff wins to claim the Class 2A State Championship by defeating Aliceville at the Alabama Super Seven 28-0 in Auburn. No team at Fyffe ever won more games in a season than the fifteen victories last year. The high-scoring Fyffe offense ranked 6th in the AHSAA. They averaged 46.7 points a game. The Red Devils defense dominated most opponents as they ranked 3rd in the AHSAA. The defense gave up just 7.5 points a game. Over the past two seasons the Red Devils have gone 28-2 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Fyffe has gone a combined 86-8. Their 92.0% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class 2A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Fyffe has gone a combined 248-71. Their 78.0% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class 2A and 6th in the AHSAA. The Red Devils have been successful on the football field with twenty-three winning seasons during this time. Their last losing season was 1996. The Red Devils are led by head coach Paul Benefield who is entering his twenty-first season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 210-41 over the past twenty seasons at Fyffe. Under his direction the Red Devils have qualified for the playoffs a total of nineteen times. They have won twelve region crowns with Coach Benefield. With two state championships over the past three seasons, the Red Devils will be gunning for another title in 2017. The Fyffe Red Devils will play in Class 2A region six during the 2017 season. The Red Devils enter the 2017 season riding a 15 game winning streak. They have also won 18 consecutive regular season games. Fyffe has won 17 consecutive region games. They have won 15 straight games on their home turf at Long-Ridgeway Stadium. While most teams rebuild during the off season, Fyffe has been a consistent winner the past few years and will simply reload this season. The Red Devils enter the season with expectations of not only a region title but reaching the state championship game. They are considered one the favorites in region six and could very well be representing the North in the Class 2A title game. The Red Devils have succeeded in reaching the playoffs every year since 2000 and this year should be no exception. The Red Devils open the 2017 season on a neutral field against non-region opponent Maplesville on Friday, August 25 at Cramton Bowl. Last year the Maplesville Red Devils finished with an overall record of 14-0 and in first place in Class 1A region three. The Red Devils won the Class 1A State Championship last season when they defeated Pickens County by a score of 40-12 in the Super Seven finals in Auburn. This will be the first meeting between Fyffe and Maplesville on the football field. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
