 2016 Preview

Central completed the 2015 season with a 5-5 record. Last year Central finished sixth in Class 4A region eight with a 3-4 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

Since 2010, Central has gone a combined 43-24. Their 64.0% winning percentage ranks 17th in Class 4A over the past six seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Central has managed to compile a record of 135-135. Their 50.0% winning percentage ranks 29th in Class 4A and 186th in the AHSAA.

The Wildcats are led by head coach Heath Wood who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 33-22 over the past five seasons at Central. Under his direction the Wildcats have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times. They have won one region crown with Coach Wood.

Coach Wood's overall record as a head football coach in five season stands at 33-22 (60.0%).

The Central Wildcats will play in Class 4A region eight during the 2016 season.

It will be an uphill battle for the Wildcats if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region eight this season.

The Wildcats open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Lexington on Friday, August 19 at McMeans Stadium. Last year the Lexington Golden Bears finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in fourth place in Class 3A region eight. The Golden Bears lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to Piedmont by a score of 34-0.

Central and Lexington have met a total of 42 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 22-19-1 record against the Golden Bears. They last met in 2011 with Central winning by a score of 39-21.
