 2016 Preview 


       Lexington completed the 2015 season with a 6-5 record. With their 4-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 3A region eight, the Golden Bears earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Lexington's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Piedmont by a score of 34-0.

       Since 2010, Lexington has gone a combined 35-31. Their 53.0% winning percentage ranks 27th in Class 3A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Lexington has managed to compile a record of 150-126. Their 54.0% winning percentage ranks 27th in Class 3A and 140th in the AHSAA.

       The Golden Bears are led by head coach Jason Lard who is entering his seventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 35-31 over the past six seasons at Lexington. Under his direction the Golden Bears have qualified for the playoffs a total of six times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Lard.

       Coach Lard's overall record as a head football coach in six season stands at 35-31 (53.0%).

       The Lexington Golden Bears will play in Class 3A region eight during the 2016 season.

       The Golden Bears should be in contention for a playoff spot in region eight this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game. They have reached the playoffs every year since 2007 and will once again be in the hunt for a spot in 2016.

       The Golden Bears open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Central Florence on Friday, August 19 at McMeans Stadium. Last year the Central Florence Wildcats finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in sixth place in Class 4A region eight. The Wildcats ended last season on a positive note with a win over Columbia by a score of 38-14 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

       Lexington and Central Florence have met a total of 42 times on the football field. The Golden Bears have a 17-24-1 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2011 with Central Florence winning by a score of 39-21.
