2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Haleyville completed the 2015 season with a 6-5 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 4A region five, the Lions earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Haleyville's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to North Jackson by a score of 28-6. Since 2010, Haleyville has gone a combined 41-26. Their 61.0% winning percentage ranks 21st in Class 4A over the past six seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Haleyville has managed to compile a record of 137-129. Their 52.0% winning percentage ranks 23rd in Class 4A and 167th in the AHSAA. The Lions are led by head coach Bo Culver who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 16-8 over the past two seasons at Haleyville. Under his direction the Lions have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Culver. Coach Culver's overall record as a head football coach in five season stands at 25-29 (46.3%). Over the course of his career, Coach Culver's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times . The Haleyville Lions will play in Class 4A region six during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Lions remain in 4A but move from region five over to region six. With a little luck and some improvement, the Lions could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region six this season. Unfortunately, Haleyville finds themselves in a very competitive region with other playoff quality teams. They may need to pull off an upset or two to have any shot at the postseason. The Lions open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Deshler on Friday, August 19 at Howard Chappell Stadium. Last year the Deshler Tigers finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in second place in Class 4A region eight. The Tigers lost in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs to Cherokee County by a score of 45-26. Haleyville and Deshler have met a total of 25 times on the football field. The Lions have a 5-19-1 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2007 with Deshler winning by a score of 44-0. Haleyville returns 4A All-State Senior athlete Brady Sherrill. He was named to the second team last season. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
