 2017 Preview 


       Dora completed the 2016 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Dora finished sixth in Class 4A region six with a 2-4 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       The Bulldogs would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-16 record. Since 2010, Dora has gone a combined 38-41. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 36th in Class 4A over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Dora has managed to compile a record of 136-139. Their 50.0% winning percentage ranks 30th in Class 4A and 187th in the AHSAA.

Mike Cain leaves Dora after two years with a 4-16 record and no playoff appearances. His 2016 team finished 4-6 which was a major improvement over the 0-10 year the previous season.


Bart Lockhart arrives at Dora after a very successful season at Sumiton Christian. His final squat at Sumiton finished 9-3.



       Coach Lockhart's overall record as a head football coach in two season stands at 12-10 (54.5%). Over the course of his career, Coach Lockhart's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of one time .

       The Dora Bulldogs will play in Class 4A region six during the 2017 season.

       It will be an uphill battle for the Bulldogs if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region six this season.

      Senior Caleb Danner returns after rushing for 1,230 yards on 191 carries and scoring 9 touchdowns.

      The defense returns Senior Achilya Dixon who registered 5.5 sacks for 23 yards in losses and Senior middle linebacker Blaine Neill who was in on 116 tackles and six sacks last season last season.

       The Bulldogs open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Corner on Friday, August 25 at Horace Roberts Field. Last year the Corner Yellow Jackets finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in fourth place in Class 5A region six. The Yellow Jackets lost in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs to Briarwood by a score of 42-17.

       Dora and Corner have met a total of 48 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 32-14-2 record against the Yellow Jackets. They last met in 2016 with Corner winning by a score of 21-14.

       Dora returns 4A All-State Senior punter Jackson Spradlin. He was named to the first team last season.

Marion County defeated Meek 83-6 in a playoff game in 2012. It is the most points scored by a team in a playoff game.
