 2017 Preview 


       Corner completed the 2016 season with a 7-4 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 5A region six, the Yellow Jackets earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Corner's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Briarwood by a score of 42-17.

       It marked the first time since the 2012 season that the Yellow Jackets qualified for the playoffs. The Yellow Jackets hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Willis saw improvement as they won seven games following a 2-8 record in 2015.

       Since 2010, Corner has gone a combined 34-39. Their 47.0% winning percentage ranks 27th in Class 5A over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Corner has managed to compile a record of 111-146. Their 43.0% winning percentage ranks 39th in Class 5A and 260th in the AHSAA.

       The Yellow Jackets are led by head coach Zac Willis who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 23-29 over the past five seasons at Corner. Under his direction the Yellow Jackets have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Willis.

       Coach Willis' overall record as a head football coach in five season stands at 23-29 (44.2%).

       The Corner Yellow Jackets will play in Class 5A region six during the 2017 season.

       The Yellow Jackets will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region six this season.

       The Yellow Jackets open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Dora on Friday, August 25 at Horace Roberts Field. Last year the Dora Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in sixth place in Class 4A region six. The Bulldogs closed out the regular season with a loss to Walker by a score of 55-7.

       Corner and Dora have met a total of 48 times on the football field. The Yellow Jackets have a 15-31-2 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2016 with Corner winning by a score of 21-14.

  


Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

In 1925 Langdale tied a record by defeating Milltown 125-0. Hamilton had set the record by thrashing Fayette 125-0 in 1915.
