Saks completed the 2016 season with a 6-5 record. With their 5-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 4A region five, the Wildcats earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Saks's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Fayette County by a score of 20-7. The Wildcats lost as many games as in any season since 2010. Since 2010, Saks has gone a combined 56-23. Their 71.0% winning percentage ranks 7th in Class 4A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Saks has managed to compile a record of 142-129. Their 52.0% winning percentage ranks 25th in Class 4A and 175th in the AHSAA. Their last losing season was 2010. The Wildcats are led by head coach Jonathan Miller who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 45-14 over the past five seasons at Saks. Under his direction the Wildcats have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times. They have won one region crown with Coach Miller. The Wildcats open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Walter Wellborn on Friday, September 1 at The Hill. Last year the Walter Wellborn Panthers finished with an overall record of 5-4 and in fifth place in Class 3A region five. The Panthers ended last season on a positive note with a win over White Plains by a score of 62-13 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Saks and Walter Wellborn have met a total of 60 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 20-40-0 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2016 with Walter Wellborn winning by a score of 26-21.
