 2017 Preview 


       Cordova completed the 2016 season with a 9-3 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 4A region six, the Blue Devils earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Cordova reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Rogers by a score of 21-14.

       Over the past two seasons the Blue Devils have gone 22-4 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. Since 2010, Cordova has gone a combined 53-30. Their 64.0% winning percentage ranks 16th in Class 4A over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Cordova has managed to compile a record of 190-117. Their 62.0% winning percentage ranks 12th in Class 4A and 71st in the AHSAA.

       The Blue Devils are led by head coach Jimmy Gay who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 34-16 over the past four seasons at Cordova. Under his direction the Blue Devils have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have won one region crown with Coach Gay.

       Coach Gay's overall record as a head football coach in six season stands at 55-20 (73.3%). Over the course of his career, Coach Gay's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times and won two region championships. Coach Gay won a state championship at in 2003.

       The Cordova Blue Devils will play in Class 4A region six during the 2017 season.

       The Blue Devils should be in contention for a playoff spot in region six this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game.

      Demetrius Kirk returns for his Senior season after completing 135 of 212 passes for 2,256 yards and 21 touchdowns. He also rushed for 428 yards and another 2 scores.

      Senior Javion Hill also returns after rushing for 604 yards on 113 carries and scoring 8 touchdowns.

      Also returning is Senior Kolbi Fuqua who caught 59 passes for 1,011 yards and 7 TDs. While playing defense he registered 114 tackles and 7 interceptions.

       The Blue Devils open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Mortimer Jordan on Thursday, August 24 at Jimmie Trotter Field. Last year the Mortimer Jordan Blue Devils finished with an overall record of 10-3 and in first place in Class 5A region six. The Blue Devils lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 5A playoffs to Briarwood by a score of 15-0.

       Cordova and Mortimer Jordan have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Blue Devils have a 3-1-0 record against the Blue Devils. They last met in 2016 with Cordova winning by a score of 21-14.

       Cordova returns 4A All-State Senior receiver Kolbi Fuqua. He was named to the first team last season.
