2017 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Brantley completed the 2016 season with a 7-5 record. With their 6-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 1A region two, the Bulldogs earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Brantley reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Maplesville by a score of 42-7. The Bulldogs lost as many games as in any season since 2001. The high-scoring Brantley offense ranked 14th in the AHSAA. They averaged 42.3 points a game. As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Brantley has gone a combined 73-17. Their 81.0% winning percentage ranks 3rd in Class 1A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Brantley has gone a combined 263-70. Their 79.0% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class 1A and 5th in the AHSAA. The Bulldogs have been successful on the football field with twenty-three winning seasons during this time. Their last losing season was 2001. The Bulldogs are led by head coach Ashley Kilcrease who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 40-12 over the past four seasons at Brantley. Under his direction the Bulldogs have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Kilcrease. Coach Kilcrease's overall record as a head football coach in four season stands at 40-12 (76.9%). The Brantley Bulldogs will play in Class 1A region two during the 2017 season. While most teams rebuild during the off season, Brantley has been a consistent winner the past few years and will simply reload this season. The Bulldogs should be considered one of the favorites for the region two championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Bulldogs have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 1996 and expect to be included again when November rolls around. The Bulldogs open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Straughn on Friday, September 1 at Brantley Field. Last year the Straughn Tigers finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in fourth place in Class 3A region two. The Tigers lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to Mobile Christian by a score of 21-7. Brantley and Straughn have met a total of 14 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 9-5-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2016 with Straughn winning by a score of 49-48. Brantley returns 1A All-State Senior receiver DAndre Sinclair. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
