 2017 Preview 


       Vigor completed the 2016 season with a 8-4 record. Last year Vigor captured the region one title and a number one seed in the Class 5A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. It was the first region championship for the Wolves since the 2009 season. Vigor reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Beauregard by a score of 48-20.

       Since 2010, Vigor has gone a combined 50-33. Their 60.0% winning percentage ranks 21st in Class 5A over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Vigor has gone a combined 217-93. Their 70.0% winning percentage ranks 7th in Class 5A and 31st in the AHSAA. The Wolves have been successful on the football field with twenty-two winning seasons during this time.

       The Wolves are led by head coach Deric Scott who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 15-8 over the past two seasons at Vigor. Under his direction the Wolves have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have won one region crown with Coach Scott.

       Coach Scott's overall record as a head football coach in two season stands at 15-8 (65.2%).

       The Vigor Wolves will play in Class 5A region one during the 2017 season.

       The Wolves should be considered one of the favorites for the region one championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs.

       The Wolves open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Blount on Friday, August 25 at Leopards Stadium. Last year the Blount Leopards finished with an overall record of 10-3 and in first place in Class 6A region one. The Leopards lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 6A playoffs to Park Crossing by a score of 54-51.

       Vigor and Blount have met a total of 52 times on the football field. The Wolves have a 38-14-0 record against the Leopards. They last met in 2016 with Blount winning by a score of 29-20.

Murphy and Theodore battled through seven overtimes before the Panthers came out on top 33-26 in 1979.
