 2017 Preview 


       Baker completed the 2016 season with a 6-5 record. With their 5-3 region record and a third place finish in Class 7A region one, the Hornets earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Baker's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Enterprise by a score of 51-14.

       The Hornets last playoff victory came during the 1984 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

       Since 2010, Baker has gone a combined 40-33. Their 55.0% winning percentage ranks 16th in Class 7A over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Baker has not won much with a record of 64-189. Their 25.0% winning percentage ranks 32nd in Class 7A and 368th in the AHSAA. Their last losing season was 2010.

       The Hornets are led by head coach Danny Smith who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 12-9 over the past two seasons at Baker. Under his direction the Hornets have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Smith.

       Coach Smith's overall record as a head football coach in two season stands at 12-9 (57.1%).

       The Baker Hornets will play in Class 7A region one during the 2017 season.

       The Hornets will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region one this season.

       The Hornets open the 2017 season at home against region opponent Murphy on Friday, August 25 at Hornet Field. Last year the Murphy Panthers finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in fourth place in Class 7A region one. The Panthers lost in the first round of the Class 7A playoffs to Central Phenix City by a score of 56-7.

       Baker and Murphy have met a total of 32 times on the football field. The Hornets have a 8-24-0 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2016 with Baker winning by a score of 32-29.
