 2017 Preview

Jemison finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 3-8 record. With their 2-4 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 5A region three, the Panthers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Jemison's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Central Clay County by a score of 56-14.

The Panthers lost as many games as in any season since 1991. The defense allowed a team record 452 points last season. It marked the first time since the 2013 season that the Panthers qualified for the playoffs.

Jemison struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 41.1 points a game.

Since 2010, Jemison has gone a combined 34-40. Their 46.0% winning percentage ranks 28th in Class 5A over the past seven seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Jemison has managed to compile a record of 156-118. Their 57.0% winning percentage ranks 21st in Class 5A and 111st in the AHSAA.

The Panthers are led by head coach Van Clements who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 5-15 over the past two seasons at Jemison. Under his direction the Panthers have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Clements.

Coach Clements' overall record as a head football coach in two season stands at 5-15 (25.0%).

The Jemison Panthers will play in Class 5A region three during the 2017 season.

The Panthers enter the 2017 season in the middle of a 6 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season.

With a little luck and some improvement, the Panthers could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region three this season.

The Panthers open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Bibb County on Friday, August 25 at Panther Stadium. Last year the Bibb County Choctaws finished with an overall record of 8-4 and in first place in Class 4A region four. The Choctaws lost in the second round of the Class 4A playoffs to Thomasville by a score of 41-21.

Jemison and Bibb County have met a total of 35 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 10-23-2 record against the Choctaws. They last met in 2016 with Bibb County winning by a score of 47-13.

Jemison returns 5A All-State Senior running back Eric Evans. He was named to the first team last season.
