2017 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Holtville finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Holtville finished eighth in Class 4A region three with a 0-7 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Bulldogs have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2010 season and would love to end that streak this year. The Bulldogs last playoff victory came during the 1993 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Holtville was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Bulldogs want to be competitive. They only averaged 18.6 points a game. Holtville struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 43.7 points a game. The Bulldogs would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 1-19 record. Since 2010, the Holtville football program has struggled with a record of 12-59. Over the past 25 seasons, Holtville has not won much with a record of 75-182. Their 29.0% winning percentage ranks 55th in Class 4A and 345th in the AHSAA. Their last winning season was 2010. Hunter Adams leaves Holtville after five seasons that produced a 4-46 record. His last three teams finished 1-29 and could never seem to find a way to win on the football field. Jason Franklin leaves Horseshoe Bend for Holtville after nine seasons with a 34-59 overall record. His teams made three playoff appearances but failed to produce a win in the post season. Coach Franklin's overall record as a head football coach in nine season stands at 34-59 (36.6%). Over the course of his career, Coach Franklin's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times . The Bulldogs have won just five games over the past six seasons. A new coach brings new hope to Holtville. The Holtville Bulldogs will play in Class 4A region three during the 2017 season. This season, the Bulldogs will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region three. The Bulldogs open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Marbury on Friday, September 1 at Marbury Stadium. Last year the Marbury Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in seventh place in Class 5A region three. The Bulldogs closed out the regular season with a loss to Catholic Montgomery by a score of 60-33. Holtville and Marbury have met a total of 75 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 46-25-4 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2016 with Marbury winning by a score of 35-24. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
