Tallassee completed the 2016 season with a 9-4 record. With their 5-2 region record and a second place finish in Class 4A region three, the Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Tallassee lost in the quarter-finals of the playoffs last season to a good Andalusia team by a score of 51-7. Since 2010, Tallassee has gone a combined 52-29. Their 64.0% winning percentage ranks 15th in Class 4A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Tallassee has managed to compile a record of 161-129. Their 56.0% winning percentage ranks 17th in Class 4A and 128th in the AHSAA. The Tigers are led by head coach Mike Battles Jr. who is entering his sixth season at the helm. They have qualified for the playoffs every year since 2007 and are hopeful to continue that streak in 2017. Casey Baynes returns for his Senior season after completing 110 of 198 passes for 1,733 yards and 22 touchdowns. He also rushed for 792 yards and another 15 scores. Junior Markevious Mathews returns after rushing for 1,086 yards on 155 carries and scoring 6 TDs. He also gained 133 yards receiving. Senior Jake Burton returns after catching 43 passes for 545 yards and 6 TDs. Also returning is Junior Trent Cochran-Gill who rushed for 466 yards on 61 carries and scoring 6 touchdowns. On defense he got in on 92 tackles and three interceptions. The Tigers open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Russell County on Friday, August 25 at J.E. Hot Obrien Stadium. Last year the Russell County Warriors finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in sixth place in Class 6A region two. The Warriors closed out the regular season with a loss to B.T. Washington by a score of 36-7. Tallassee and Russell County have met a total of 11 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 11-0-0 record against the Warriors.
