Leeds completed the 2016 season with a 8-4 record. With their 5-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 4A region three, the Greenwave earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Leeds reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Andalusia by a score of 40-0. The Greenwave hope to get back closer to the 13-2 record in 2015. Over the past two seasons the Greenwave have gone 21-6 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. Since 2010, Leeds has gone a combined 73-25. Their 74.0% winning percentage ranks 5th in Class 4A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Leeds has managed to compile a record of 187-117. Their 62.0% winning percentage ranks 10th in Class 4A and 74th in the AHSAA. The Greenwave are led by head coach Lee Gibson who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 8-4 record in his first season at Leeds. Under his direction the Greenwave have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Gibson. Coach Gibson's overall record as a head football coach in eight season stands at 50-40 (55.6%). Over the course of his career, Coach Gibson's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of seven times . The Leeds Greenwave will play in Class 4A region three during the 2017 season. The Greenwave should be considered one of the favorites for the region three championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Greenwave have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2005 and expect to be included again when November rolls around. Zach Roberts returns for his Senior season after completing 64 of 133 passes for 958 yards and 14 touchdowns. Senior Torrence Pollard also returns after rushing for 451 yards on 49 carries and scoring 4 touchdowns. He also caught 12 passes for 333 yards and another six scores. The Greenwave open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Lincoln on Friday, August 25 at Homer Smiles Field. Last year the Lincoln Golden Bears finished with an overall record of 4-8 and in fourth place in Class 5A region four. The Golden Bears lost in the second round of the Class 5A playoffs to Jackson by a score of 52-7. Leeds and Lincoln have met a total of 18 times on the football field. The Greenwave have a 13-5-0 record against the Golden Bears. They last met in 2016 with Leeds winning by a score of 21-7. Leeds returns 4A All-State Senior athlete Jaylen Washington.
