2017 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Childersburg finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Childersburg finished seventh in Class 4A region three with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The defense allowed a team record 444 points last season. Childersburg struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 44.4 points a game. Since 2010, Childersburg has gone a combined 28-46. Their 38.0% winning percentage ranks 43rd in Class 4A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Childersburg has managed to compile a record of 106-163. Their 39.0% winning percentage ranks 47th in Class 4A and 292nd in the AHSAA. The Tigers are led by head coach Jonathan Beverly who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 3-7 record in his first season at Childersburg. The Tigers saw improvement from a 2-8 record the season before coach Beverly arrived. The Tigers have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Beverly. Coach Beverly's overall record as a head football coach in two season stands at 5-15 (25.0%). The Childersburg Tigers will play in Class 4A region three during the 2017 season. The Tigers have one of the toughest schedules in Class 4A. Their opponents had a combined record of 65-48 last season. That ranks 6th in Class 4A and 34th in the AHSAA. It will be an uphill battle for the Tigers if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region three this season. The Tigers open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Pell City on Friday, September 1 at Pete Rich-Alumni Stadium. Last year the Pell City Panthers finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in fourth place in Class 6A region seven. The Panthers lost in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs to Austin by a score of 41-19. Childersburg and Pell City have met a total of 42 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 18-22-2 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2016 with Pell City winning by a score of 56-7. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
