 2017 Preview

Geneva finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 3-6 record. Last year Geneva finished seventh in Class 3A region two with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

Since 2010, Geneva has gone a combined 25-45. Their 36.0% winning percentage ranks 41st in Class 3A over the past seven seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Geneva has managed to compile a record of 146-130. Their 53.0% winning percentage ranks 27th in Class 3A and 158th in the AHSAA.

The Panthers are led by head coach Les Sanders who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 7-12 over the past two seasons at Geneva. The Panthers have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Sanders.

Coach Sanders' overall record as a head football coach in seven season stands at 47-32 (59.5%). Over the course of his career, Coach Sanders' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times and won one region championship.

The Geneva Panthers will play in Class 3A region two during the 2017 season.

With a little luck and some improvement, the Panthers could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region two this season. Geneva missed the playoffs the past couple of seasons but hope to return to the post season in 2017.

The Panthers open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent McKenzie on Friday, September 1 at Hugh Owen Stadium. Last year the McKenzie Tigers finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in third place in Class 1A region two. The Tigers lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Sweet Water by a score of 47-6.

Geneva and McKenzie have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 1-1-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2016 with McKenzie winning by a score of 29-20.
