 2017 Preview 


       Samson completed the 2016 season with a 7-5 record. With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 2A region two, the Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Samson reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Elba by a score of 48-20.

       Since 2010, Samson has gone a combined 39-36. Their 52.0% winning percentage ranks 22nd in Class 2A over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Samson has managed to compile a record of 125-149. Their 46.0% winning percentage ranks 33rd in Class 2A and 237th in the AHSAA.

       The Tigers are led by head coach Chris Littleton who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 14-9 over the past two seasons at Samson. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Littleton.

       Coach Littleton's overall record as a head football coach in five season stands at 20-33 (37.7%). Over the course of his career, Coach Littleton's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times .

       The Samson Tigers will play in Class 2A region two during the 2017 season.

       The Tigers should be in contention for a playoff spot in region two this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game.

      The defense returns Junior middle linebacker Caleb Jordan who registered 105 tackles last season.

      The defense also returns Junior MLB R.J. Snell who registered 4 sacks for 41 yards in losses last season.

       The Tigers open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Providence Christian on Friday, September 1. Last year the Providence Christian Eagles finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in fifth place in Class 3A region two.

       Samson and Providence Christian have met a total of 8 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 2-6-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in 2016 with Providence Christian winning by a score of 20-6.
