2017 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Crossville completed the 2016 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Crossville finished sixth in Class 5A region seven with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Lions won as many games as in any season since 2010. The Lions have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2004 season and would love to end that streak this year. The Lions last playoff victory came during the 2000 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Since 2010, the Crossville football program has struggled with a record of 17-53. Over the past 25 seasons, Crossville has managed to compile a record of 125-142. Their 47.0% winning percentage ranks 35th in Class 5A and 224th in the AHSAA. Their last winning season was 2010. The Lions are led by head coach Miles Holcomb who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 4-6 record in his first season at Crossville. The Lions saw improvement from a 1-9 record the season before coach Holcomb arrived. The Lions have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Holcomb. Coach Holcomb's overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 4-6 (40.0%). The Crossville Lions will play in Class 5A region seven during the 2017 season. With a little luck and some improvement, the Lions could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region seven this season. Crossville has failed to qualify for the playoffs since 2004 but hope to return to the post season this year. Senior Andrew Driskill returns after catching 40 passes for 407 yards and 3 touchdowns. Also returning is Senior Blanton Jones who caught 38 passes for 619 yards and 8 TDs. The Lions open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Collinsville on Friday, September 1 at Crossville Memorial Stadium. Last year the Collinsville Panthers finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in fourth place in Class 2A region six. The Panthers lost in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs to LaFayette by a score of 26-6. Crossville and Collinsville have met a total of 81 times on the football field. The Lions have a 46-34-1 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2016 with Crossville winning by a score of 21-14. Crossville returns 5A All-State Senior athlete Andrew Driskill. He was named to the first team last season. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
