 2017 Preview 


       Sylvania completed the 2016 season with a 8-4 record. Last year Sylvania captured the region seven title and a number one seed in the Class 3A playoffs. They finished region play with a 4-2 record. It was the first region championship for the Rams since the 2005 season. Sylvania reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Randolph County by a score of 38-24.

       The Rams improved in 2016 with their first winning season since 2012. The Rams hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Putnam saw improvement as they won eight games following a 3-7 record in 2015.

       Since 2010, Sylvania has gone a combined 43-33. Their 57.0% winning percentage ranks 24th in Class 3A over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Sylvania has managed to compile a record of 162-116. Their 58.0% winning percentage ranks 15th in Class 3A and 107th in the AHSAA.

       The Rams are led by head coach Matt Putnam who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 11-11 over the past two seasons at Sylvania. Under his direction the Rams have qualified for the playoffs once. They have won one region crown with Coach Putnam.

       Coach Putnam's overall record as a head football coach in seven season stands at 37-36 (50.7%). Over the course of his career, Coach Putnam's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times and won one region championship.

       The Sylvania Rams will play in Class 3A region seven during the 2017 season.

       The Rams enter the 2017 season riding a 6 game regular season winning streak.

       The Rams will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region seven this season.

       The Rams open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Sardis on Friday, September 1 at Lions Stadium. Last year the Sardis Lions finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in fifth place in Class 4A region seven. The Lions ended last season on a positive note with a win over Boaz by a score of 48-7 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

       Sylvania and Sardis have met a total of 30 times on the football field. The Rams have a 17-13-0 record against the Lions. They last met in 2016 with Sylvania winning by a score of 41-27.
