 2017 Preview

Aliceville completed the 2016 season with a 13-2 record. Last year Aliceville captured the region four title and a number one seed in the Class 2A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. It was the first region championship for the Yellow Jackets since the 2006 season. The Yellow Jackets won four consecutive playoff games to reach the Class 2A State Championship game only to fall just short of claiming a title. They were defeated by Fyffe at the Alabama Super Seven 28-0 in Auburn.

The Yellow Jackets won as many games as in any season since 2000. The 620 points scored by the Yellow Jackets last year were a team record in a single season. The Yellow Jackets hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Pete Jr. saw improvement as they won thirteen games following a 6-5 record in 2015.

The high-scoring Aliceville offense ranked 20th in the AHSAA. They averaged 41.3 points a game.

Since 2010, Aliceville has gone a combined 53-28. Their 65.0% winning percentage ranks 9th in Class 2A over the past seven seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Aliceville has gone a combined 209-99. Their 68.0% winning percentage ranks 5th in Class 2A and 36th in the AHSAA.

After just two seasons at Aliceville, Rico Jackson leaves with a 19-7 record. His final team reached the state championship game before falling to Fyffe. His overall record at Aliceville and Fairfield stands at 35-21 in five seasons.

Melvin Pete Jr. takes over the football program in Aliceville for the 2017 season. He has previously been the head coach at Central Tuscaloosa where he compiled a 33-23 record and led the Falcons to the 2007 state championship.

Coach Pete Jr.'s overall record as a head football coach in eleven season stands at 64-52 (55.2%). Over the course of his career, Coach Pete Jr.'s teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of six times and won five region championships. Coach Pete Jr. won a state championship at in 2007.

The Aliceville Yellow Jackets will play in Class 2A region four during the 2017 season.

The Yellow Jackets enter the 2017 season riding a 9 game regular season winning streak. They have won 9 straight games on their home turf at Memorial Stadium.

The Yellow Jackets should be considered one of the favorites for the region four championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. Don't be surprised if the Yellow Jackets are making another deep run into the playoffs. The Yellow Jackets have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 1995 and expect to be included again when November rolls around.

The Yellow Jackets open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Gordo on Friday, September 1 at Memorial Stadium. Last year the Gordo Green Wave finished with an overall record of 13-1 and in first place in Class 3A region four. The Green Wave lost in the semi-finals round of the Class 3A playoffs to Mobile Christian by a score of 21-14.

Aliceville and Gordo have met a total of 65 times on the football field. The Yellow Jackets have a 26-37-2 record against the Green Wave. They last met in 2016 with Gordo winning by a score of 20-0.
