 2017 Preview 


       Thorsby finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Thorsby finished sixth in Class 2A region four with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       The Rebels last playoff victory came during the 2003 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. The Rebels hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just one game which followed a 6-5 record in 2015.

       The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Thorsby averaged scoring just 10.3 points a game. The Rebels also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 37.0 points a game.

       Since 2010, Thorsby has gone a combined 26-47. Their 36.0% winning percentage ranks 41st in Class 2A over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Thorsby has not won much with a record of 76-179. Their 30.0% winning percentage ranks 51st in Class 2A and 343rd in the AHSAA.

Billy Jackson leaves Thorsby after eight seasons with a 28-55 record under his belt. His final season produced a 1-9 record, the third of his career with the program. Three f his squads reached the playoffs but none were able to win a post season game.


Daryl Davis begins his second stint at Thorsby this season. He was the head coach at the school from 2005-08 with a 10-30 record. He spent the past few years coaching the Junior High football team.



       Coach Davis' overall record as a head football coach in four season stands at 10-30 (25.0%).

       The Thorsby Rebels will play in Class 2A region four during the 2017 season. The Rebels have one of the toughest schedules in Class 2A. Their opponents had a combined record of 66-49 last season. That ranks 1st in Class 2A and 43rd in the AHSAA.

       The Rebels enter the 2017 season in the middle of a 7 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season.

       It will be an uphill battle for the Rebels if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region four this season. After just a single win last year, Thorsby will be hopeful of winning a few more games this season.

       The Rebels open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Prattville Christian on Friday, August 25 at Susan Bentley Field. Last year the Prattville Christian Panthers finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in fourth place in Class 3A region three. The Panthers lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to Gordo by a score of 55-14.

       Thorsby and Prattville Christian have met a total of 6 times on the football field. The Rebels have a 4-2-0 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2016 with Prattville Christian winning by a score of 29-21.
