2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Wetumpka completed the 2015 season with a 4-7 record. With their 4-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 6A region two, the Indians earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Wetumpka's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to McAdory by a score of 35-3. Since 2010, Wetumpka has gone a combined 33-32. Their 51.0% winning percentage ranks 32nd in Class 6A over the past six seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Wetumpka has managed to compile a record of 164-115. Their 59.0% winning percentage ranks 22nd in Class 6A and 97th in the AHSAA. The Indians are led by head coach Tim Perry who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 21-23 over the past four seasons at Wetumpka. Under his direction the Indians have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Perry. Coach Perry's overall record as a head football coach in eighteen season stands at 94-96 (49.5%). Over the course of his career, Coach Perry's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of nine times and won three region championships. If Wetumpka can win six games this season, Coach Perry will reach the 100 win milestone. The Wetumpka Indians will play in Class 6A region three during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Indians remain in 6A but move from region two over to region three. The Indians have one of the toughest schedules in Class 6A. Their opponents had a combined record of 73-40 last season. That ranks 3rd in Class 6A and 9th in the AHSAA. Region three will be one of the most competitive regions in any classification this season. With a little luck and some improvement, the Indians could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region three this season. The Indians open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Prattville on Friday, August 19 at Stanley Jenson Field. Last year the Prattville Lions finished with an overall record of 6-4 and in fifth place in Class 7A region two. The Lions ended last season on a positive note with a win over Valley by a score of 34-7 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Wetumpka and Prattville have met a total of 59 times on the football field. The Indians have a 27-29-3 record against the Lions. They last met in 2013 with Prattville winning by a score of 28-7. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
