 2016 Preview

Greenville completed the 2015 season with a 11-1 record. The Tigers cruised through the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record going into the post season. Last year Greenville captured the region two title and a number one seed in the Class 5A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. Greenville reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to St. Pauls by a score of 24-23.

The defense was very stingy last season as Greenville ranked 26th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 13.3 points a game.

Over the past two seasons the Tigers have gone 21-4 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. Since 2010, Greenville has gone a combined 47-23. Their 67.0% winning percentage ranks 11th in Class 5A over the past six seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Greenville has managed to compile a record of 175-109. Their 62.0% winning percentage ranks 14th in Class 5A and 71st in the AHSAA.

The Tigers are led by head coach Josh McLendon who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 11-1 record in his first season at Greenville. The Tigers saw improvement from a 10-3 record the season before coach McLendon arrived. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs once. They have won one region crown with Coach McLendon.

Coach McLendon's overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 29-6 (82.9%). Over the course of his career, Coach McLendon's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times and won one region championship.

The Greenville Tigers will play in Class 5A region two during the 2016 season.

The Tigers enter the 2016 season riding a 16 game regular season winning streak. Greenville has won 12 consecutive region games.

The Tigers should be considered one of the favorites for the region two championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs.

The Tigers open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Beauregard on Friday, August 26 at Tiger Stadium. Last year the Beauregard Hornets finished with an overall record of 11-1 and in first place in Class 5A region three. The Hornets lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 5A playoffs to Jackson by a score of 31-28.

Greenville and Beauregard have met a total of 5 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 3-2-0 record against the Hornets. They last met in with
