Week 13


The playoffs are underway. Here are a few tidbits from this week's action.

   *   Maplesville has the state's longest winning streak at 34 games following another victory. The Red Devils defeated Talladega County Centeal 36-0 in the second round of the playoffs.

   *   Barbour County still has the state's longest losing streak at forty-one games.

   *   Bullock County closed out their 2017 region play and has lost 58 consecutive region games.

   *   Fyffe will try to extended their 28 game regular season winning streak but will need to wait until next season.

   *   The state's longest region winning streak also belongs to Maplesville who has a string of 52 straight region victories.

   *   Piedmont has the state's longest home winning streak at twenty-seven games after a second round 28-13 win over J.B. Pennington. Monroe Academy (34) lead the AISA schools.

   *   Maplesville (28) and Fyffe (27) lead all the others in consecutive road victories following their latest wins.

   *   Maplesville has scored twenty or more points in 49 consecutive games.

   *   Fyffe hopes to avoid the dreaded shutout and extend their streak of consecutive games scoring. They are currently sitting on a string of 233 games without being shutout.

   *   Three teams from Class 5A region 5, Class 4A region 5 and Class 3A region 1 advanced to the quarterfinals of the post season.

   *   Gordo was shutout 24-0 by Mobile Christian. It was their first shutout loss in 127 games.

   *   The Class 7A semifinals are this week. Hoover/Berry is 18-2 in the semifinals of the playoffs. The other three teams are a combined 4-6.

   *   The other classifications are in the quarterfinals round this week. Maplesville enters with a record of 18-5 while Sweet Water has a record of 10-3 in the  quarterfinals.

   *   Colbert Heights, Pinson Valley and St.. Luke's have never reached the quarterfinals of the playoffs prior to this season.

   *   Alabama Christian, Colbert Heights, Goshen, Pinson Valley and St.. Luke's have never won a third round playoff game in their school's history. Others with long second round victory droughts include: Cherokee (1984), Hillcrest Tuscaloosa (1985) and Thompson (1982).
