Week 2


The 2017 season in in full swing. Here are a few tidbits from this week's action.

   *   Maplesville has the state's longest winning streak at 24 games following a 36-6 thumping of Resurrection Catholic of Mississippi.

   *   Barbour County hoped to end a string of thirty-three consecutive losses this season. They did not get off to a good start and lost to Randolph County by a score of 48-0. Second place Brilliant ended their streak of twenty-seven straight losses with a 14-12 victory over Vina.

   *   Bullock County has lost 52 consecutive region games in a row and will out to end that streak this week when they begin region play with a games against Alabama Christian.

   *  The G.W. Long Rebels had their string of 34 straight regular season wins snapped by a 34-0 loss to Dale County on Thursday night. New leader, Fyffe, has a 19 game regular season winning streak.

   *   Tanner has a streak of 53 consecutive region wins with no signs of slowing down this year. The Rattlers open region play in this week under head coach Maurice Belser against West End.

   *   The Hornets of state champion Beauregard entered the 2017 season with a string of 23 consecutive home wins. The Hornets opened the season at home against Greenville and saw their streak fall in a 34-31 loss. Bessemer Academy (29) and Monroe Academy (28) lead the AISA schools.

   *    Maplesville has won 22 consecutive road games following their impressive victory this past weekend.

   *   Maplesville has scored twenty or more points in 39 consecutive games.

   *   Fyffe hopes to avoid the dreaded shutout and extend their streak of consecutive games scoring. They are currently sitting on a string of 222 games without being shutout. The Red Devils defeated Geraldine by a score of 33-0 to open the season.

   *   Opp saw their string of consecutive games scoring halted at 91 in a surprising 54-0 loss to T.R. Miller. Tanner also had their streak ended at 84 games in a 45-0 setback against Mae Jemison.

   *   Abbeville shutout Ashford 28-0 garnering their first blanking of an opponent in 88 games. Good Hope shutout Vinemont by a score of 41-0. It was the program's first shutout since the 2006 season.

   *   North Sand Mountain eased by #7 Cedar Bluff for their first victory over a ranked team since the 1998 season. Northview squeaked by Enterprise 23-22 producing their first win over a ranked team since the 2008 season.

   *   Hoover has been ranked by the ASWA for an amazing 187 consecutive polls dating back to the 2000 season. The Bucs are the #2 team in Class 7A.

   *   Michael D. Jackson won his 100th game as a head football coach on Friday as Red Bay thrashed Tharptown 53-7. Jimmy Perry, head football coach at St. James, also picked up his 100th win on Friday night 30-6 against Montgomery Academy.
