Week 7

The 2017 regular season is nearing the end of region play. Here are a few tidbits from this week's action.

   *   Maplesville has the state's longest winning streak at 28 games following an open date.

   *   Barbour County lost to Abbeville by a score of 56-7 and still has the state's longest losing streak at thirty-seven games.

   *   Bullock County has lost 55 consecutive region games following a 56-12 loss to region foe St. James.

   *   Fyffe extended their 24 game regular season winning streak with a victory over Sand Rock by a score of 49-7.

   *   The state's longest region winning streak also belongs to Maplesville who has a string of 49 straight region victories.

   *   Piedmont has the state's longest home winning streak at twenty-three games. The Bulldogs came away from Weaver with a 33-27 victory on the road. Monroe Academy (31) lead the AISA schools.

   *    Maplesville has also won 24 consecutive road games following an open date.

   *   Maplesville has scored twenty or more points in 43 consecutive games.

   *   Fyffe hopes to avoid the dreaded shutout and extend their streak of consecutive games scoring. They are currently sitting on a string of 227 games without being shutout.

   *   Piedmont defeated #6 Weaver which is their third victory over a ranked team this year.

   *   Jackson-Olin defeated #8 Ramsay 14-8 for their first win over a ranked team since they beat Wenonah 33-0 during the 1997 football season.

   *   Fairhope defeated Baker 30-14 to win their 500th game in the school's history. Congratulations to the Pirates who have an all-time record of 500-349-24.

   *   By some twist of fact, another Baldwin County school accomplished the same feat as the Tigers of Baldwin County also reached the 500 win mark with a 35-6 win over Robertsdale. The Tigers are 500-430-30 since first fielding a football team back in the early 1920s.

   *   A third team won their 500 victory as Tarrant topped Winston County by a score of 38-8 on Friday. The Wildcats are now 500-447-40 since first playing football way back in 1917.

   *   After some research and fact checking by someone that works with the school, it was discovered that we had Scottsboro credited with an extra victory from the 1954 football season. So, we now have them with 498 wins and needing two more victories to reach the magical 500 win mark. Sorry for the mistake and thanks to a friend for assisting us to get it correct.

   *   Hoover has been ranked by the ASWA for an amazing 192 consecutive polls dating back to the 2000 season. The Bucs are the #2 team in Class 7A.

   *   Josh Wright, the head football coach at Bessemer Academy, won his 100th football game as a head coach as the team defeated Lee-Scott Academy by a score of 17-7.

   *   Jay Brown also reached the 100 win mark as Moody defeated Woodlawn 35-12 on Friday night.

   *   Jeff Pugh got his 100th victory as a head football coach on Friday when East Limestone defeated Lawrence County by a score of 16-6.
